Na podstawie art. 2. ust. 1 pkt 2 o szczególnych zasadach, warunkach i trybie mianowania na wyższe stopnie wojskowe żołnierzy uczestniczących w walkach o wolność i niepodległość Polski podczas II wojny światowej i w okresie powojennym mianowanych na stopień porucznika zostało dwóch mieszkańców Gminy Poniec.

Zgodnie z Uchwałą Rady Miejskiej w Poniecu nr XXXVII/247/2006 z dnia 31 marca 2006 roku Komisja Stypendialna na swym posiedzeniu w dniu 7 lipca br. zatwierdziła wzór wniosku o stypendium dla studentów zamieszkałych na terenie gminy Poniec.
Gmina Poniec już po raz trzeci organizuje letni program „Zielone Wakacje”. Głównym celem programu jest zorganizowanie opieki dla dzieci w okresie wzmożonych prac polowych. Uczestnicy programu biorą udział w zajęciach sportowych, plastycznych i wycieczkach. Dzieci poprzez zabawę poznają zagrożenia związane z alkoholem i narkotykami. Odbędą się również spotkania z osobami wykonującymi ciekawe zawody.
W dniu 9 lipca br. Gminne Centrum Kultury w Poniecu zorganizowało kolejny letni festyn w Parku Miejskim.
W dniach od 26 czerwca do l lipca 2006 roku w Schronisku Młodzieżowym „MORENA" odbyły się warsztaty muzyczne Dziecięco – Młodzieżowej Orkiestry Dętej Gminnego Centrum Kultury w Poniecu.
W dniu 2 lipca 2006r. w Szurkowie gm. Poniec odbyły się uroczyste obchody 80 - lecia powstania Ochotniczej Straży Pożarnej i gminne zawody sportowo – pożarnicze.
Uroczystość rozpoczęto zbiórką jednostek OSP biorącymi udział w zawodach sportowo – pożarniczych, po czym przy dźwiękach orkiestry dętej przemaszerowano przed front Domu Strażaka.
